Hooray!

Lauren is swimming unaided!

Summer swimming lessons started up again this week. Lauren has finally realised that she can swim without armbands and without Peter or me in the water. In fact she actually became water safe towards the end of last summer, but she didn't think she was. So she refused to swim without armbands unless one of us was with her. She had her first lesson on Monday, and I swam with her at the lesson, and then we swam at home on Wednesday afternoon. I had a headache so just sat on the side and watched the girls, and I suggested Lauren go in without her armbands and swim along the step. Then I suggested she swim a metre or so from the step to me on the wall, then I moved a little further, and so on, and soon she was dashing proudly from one side to the other. And she's got this rocket-like dive.

Her second lesson was this afternoon, and I asked her if I could just sit and watch, because I had Daniel there as well. And she let me. And she was fine.

She's enormously proud of herself.

She's a bit sad about one thing though. Peter has always taken her to her swimming lessons. He used to take them to gym too, come to that. And now with our current work arrangement, and the times of the lessons, it makes much more sense logistically for me to do all these things. Lauren had just assumed Peter would be taking her, and she was disappointed to hear she would not be having that time again with her Dad.
