Some snippets from the weekend:

We actually sorted out the playroom cupboard. This was no mean feat, as five years ago when we moved into the house, everything that we couldn't find a good place for got dumped into that cupboard (it wasn't a playroom then, as we had one six-month-old only). And the junk has been there ever since. And Peter has this dramatically effective but cosmetic approach to tidying up. Whenever the pile of rubbish on the [select appropriate household surface here] gets too unbearable, he simply stuffs it all in a plastic packet and hides it somewhere. Usually in the playroom cupboard.

We didn't move Daniel's cot in there yet. This week I've been trying hard to put him back into his cot throughout the night, as the mosquitos have reached plague status. No amount of citronella seems to keep them away. In fact I think they rather enjoy a little citrus flavour to their blood. Daniel's the only one who's currently safe from them at night as Peter recently bought a mosquito net for his cot. Anyway, I think if his cot's in the other room I'll be even less likely to take him back there at 3 in the morning. Perhaps when the weather cools down and the mosquitos subside we'll move him.

Robyn started up a conversation about careers first thing on Sunday morning. She thinks she might like to be a house builder as then she could spend about half the day building and then still have time to spend with her children. She doesn't want to work with computers as they take up so much time. I think she's gained a bit of a bad impression of working over the last year - I think our negativity about work must have come through to her. I'll need to try to restore the balance a bit.

I've been working on our family videos recently - minor editing and transferring stuff from the small tapes to the large ones we can watch on the VCR (would love to get some software one day and make this a digital process and keep the stuff on DVD rather than on video). Anyway, Lauren chose one from when she and Robyn were one and three years old respectively. Seems Robyn has got to the age where she is embarrassed to look back on her younger self. She's growing up. Lauren was enchanted of course. But then Lauren is at a magical age where everything enchants her.

We swam on both Saturday and Sunday. Lauren is now also swimming without arm bands (if one of us is in the pool with her) and can almost swim right across the pool. Her current favourite pool game is dive-bombing me. She's got enourmous energy and stays in the water until she's totally exhausted and numb with cold. Daniel too absolutely loves the water, loves to splash and thrash and be tossed around.
