This weekend was the start of the kids' summer holidays. It was a really good weekend. On Saturday we spent the day at Scottburgh which is about 40 minutes down the South Coast from Durban. It was one of those idyllic memory-making days. The kids loved paddling in the river mouth and had their first big water-slide experience ever. We weren't sure if it would be too scary for them, but they absolutely loved it, including Daniel, who was fearless. There wasn't anyone else riding with a 19-month old toddler however. After probably a total of three or four hours of sliding and lugging 12 kgs of Daniel back up to the top (this was on and off all day between 10.30 and 5.30, with breaks for lunch, paddling, swimming, ice-creams and digging in the sand) , we were totally exhausted, and the only way we managed to convince the kids to stop was that we would come back later in the holidays.
We all had such fun. I haven't been on a water slide since I was a teenager. And if we didn't have kids it just wouldn't have occurred to us as something to do.
The next day was spent recovering at home. It was another incredibly hot day. We spent the hottest part of the day playing monopoly and then swam when it was slightly cooler.
It was hard going to work this morning. The girls are spending the next four mornings at a holiday sports club. I hope they enjoy it. Lauren was pretty unkeen when I mentioned it a few weeks ago, but she seemed to have warmed up to the idea this morning.
