We started building the kids' Wendy house yesterday. It was immensely satisfying to finally get started after so much time spent planning and drawing and trying to get our heads around issues like imperial / metric measurement systems, and different standard timber sizes, and different types of timber, and different lengths and types of nails. So for instance, to make the floor frame, instead of nailing a bunch of 10d common nails into six pressure-treated fir two-by-fours to make a six-foot square with two joists, we ended up nailing a bunch of 63mm nails into six CNA-treated 33*108mm pine beams to make a 1.8m square with two joists. All the kids loved the hammering. The older two did much better than we expected them to. Daniel, predictably, is somewhat dangerous with a hammer.
Next step: plywood for the interior floor and pine boards for the porch decking.
