So yesterday I was sitting with some other moms half-watching the girls' gym lesson, and the chat got on to (groan) hair care. I never really know how to join in such conversations. In this particular case I was sitting in the middle of three or four women discussing their hair care routines and budgets. Routines? Budgets? Oh yes. One of the moms is setting up a home hair salon and is setting about the task of getting her old clients switched over. She's starting with those who come every four or six weeks, then she'll set about contacting those who come 'less' often, like every 8 weeks or so. Erm. Does no-one else go every three or
as-many-months-as-they-can-possibly-survive between hair-cuts? Apparently not. And then the woman sitting next to me, dropped into the conversation details of her new hair straightening routine - one treatment of which costs 'one-eight'. Hmmm, thought I to myself, that's an usual way of saying R180. Noooooooo, one thousand eight hundred rand. This is the point at which I ran out of contribitions to the conversation. I guess she must really really like straight hair.
