It's almost midnight, and I should probably be trying to sleep, but being such a reliable, regular blogger, here I am loyally tapping away.
At 6.30 this evening Robyn suddenly shrieked and remembered the grade 3's are supposed to supply cake for tomorrow's school fund-raising cake sale (one grade takes cake, all kids bring a few rand and get to 'buy' a few yummies of their choice). In a desperate and unprecedented move, I called Peter to ask him to pick up some cakes at Woollies, and it was only Robyn's stricken face, at the thought of shop-bought cakes, that I converted the request to cake ingredients.
Apparently no-one brings shop-bought cakes. I resisted the temptation to point out that the Woollies cup cakes would have been fantastically popular, as they are, very nearly literally, more icing than cake.
I hadn't actually forgotten about the Valentines Day cake sale - it was all marked up on my google calendar, and I was just bragging to Peter the other day how this calendar has helped me stay on top of things, particularly as I can refer to it from both work and home. Unfortunately I failed to make the connection that cake sale actually required the supply of cake.
Probably, all thoughts of the cake sale were swamped by the fact that Robyn has to construct a hat at school tomorrow as part of the Valentine's Day festivities. A note came home saying it was for assessment, and while the work had to be the child's, parents' ideas and suggestions were welcomed. So earlier today we were frantically scouring the shops for hat-making material, and then this evening were helping Robyn get her hat plans sorted.
This sort of project seems a bit biased towards children whose parents have more time and/or money and/or interest than others.
Anyway, she is really looking forward to the day, which will culminate in a Mad Hatters parade. School is going so well for her this year - so much better than last year. Her teacher is much better suited to her this year, and Robyn seems a lot happier.

I might have just taken the cupcakes out of the Woolies containers and pretended :-) Messed the icing up a bit, maybe, so they looked a bit more authentic. :-)
The kids say, re the sports hall/livingroom, why not just get a table tennis set, air hockey table and a fooz ball thingy too?
