I seem unable to start Monday morning with actual work, even though I'm at last embarking on an actual project after four months of being bored to tears. This could actually get me at least partially interested in work again. It's a so-called technically strategic project wherein we, and our big client, share the development cost. So the project is aimed at furthering both their business and ours. And, lets be frank, hopefully contributing towards improving client relations between them and us.

Last week for the first time I actually felt like taking a reference book home for the weekend, and I actually felt like reading it once I got home. Can't remember the last time that happened. Now if I can just get my confidence back too.

It's funny, Sunday evening used to be my least favourite time of the week. Now I'm working half-time only, I don't feel that way any more. Regardless of how Monday morning goes, at lunch time I'll be home again.

This weekend started off on a sour note though. On Friday, both Peter and I discovered, in separate conversations with separate people, that two people we work with have just separated from their spouses. How do things go so badly wrong? How can you be married for ten years, have an eight-month old baby, and separate? I remember Robyn's first year as such an extraordinary year of discovery. I can't imagine what it would be like to have that coupled with your family unit breaking up.

In our mid-twenties everyone was getting married. A few years later there were some divorces. Now in our early thirties there are divorces with kids involved. Makes life seem very fragile.

It was a good weekend though, with lots of time with the kids on Saturday, and more playroom cupboard organising. In the morning I took Lauren to a party while Peter did a couple of errands with Robyn and Daniel. At the party I met up with a friend I haven't seen since before Christmas (her son used to be at school with Lauren but went on to a different school), so we had a good chat and arranged to meet next week for the kids to play. On Sunday we had some friends round for lunch. They have two kids aged three and one, so it was somewhat hectic. But very enjoyable. Peter even agreed to look at getting involved in investigating some alternative projects on the side, possibly open-source, which is something he's keen to get involved in. Even if nothing comes of it, there will at least be a chance to get together with some other people socially. I've met a few friends through the kids schools, but he hasn't had the same opportunities, so it will be good to be able to extend his circle a bit.
